Inter-lux Rubber defines the genre for flexible lighting tools

What’s interesting is that the white silicone between optics actually softens the mix of light. The white paper against the wall is curved and you can see there are no hot spots between grazing diodes.

Rubber with black finish and optics

The black silicone between diodes, but contrast creates a quieter graze, but it also doesn’t mix as much.
