Get To Know Beta-Calco's Interior Offering
When Beta-Calco joined SDA, we got to do extensive product training, including a virtual factory tour. I’ve written about Beta-Calco a little bit already on the blog, already.
But with the new year, it’s time to really get to know Beta-Calco. Ivan and I have set aside four dates to introduce Beta-Calco to you. Two of them will focus on interior products and the other two on exterior.
For this interior session we’ll introduce Beta-Calco as a company and then go over some of their most recent innovations, including Le Louvre, Matrex, Triple and Warp.

Live From the Shed - The Latest From Day-O-Lite
Day-O-Lite is an American manufacturer based up in Rhode Island. They’ve been a long time partner of SDA. Ken Mackenzie is going to join me for a live session to talk about some of their latest products and innovations. We’ll be showing the LEDucation booth, talking acoustic solutions, and discussing DOL’s custom and modification capabilities.
For every registered attendee Day-O-Lite will be donating $10 to Feeding America.

Join me for a fast and fun session with Bill Kressler of Leviton Lighting to discuss two new innovations from Intense. We’ll be talking about upgrades to the MX Naked family and introduce the LD4, a low-cost downlight for general applications.
For each registered attendee, Leviton will donate $10 to Feeding America.

Erco Eclipse!
I’m going to be really honest here. I rarely get excited about product launches. While I’m always happy to see a factory iterate on an existing product or create something new, a factory rarely launches a product that truly wows me.
ERCO has done that with Eclipse.
I was interested after the first couple of teaser videos like the one above. Then the entire SDA team was given a live demonstration from the showroom in Germany demonstrating the various ways you can use Eclipse, similar to the video below.
Listen I get it, lighting designers, especially lighting designers in NY see a lot of new products. But this one is worth your time. So much so that I booked one of the first available dates with ERCO North America in 2021.
There are two time slots on February 2nd 10:00 AM and 1:00 PM. Shoot me an email and let me know which one you’d like to attend. As soon as the registration is available I will add you!

Project Story: How Hemera Built a Casade of Light
Here’s another great project story from Hemera. Adam and I have already discussed their amazing installation at Michigan Plaza. For this discussion, we’re going to talk about the Peeples Cancer Institute at Hamilton Medical Center.

Partnering With Hemera for Your Custom Projects
Hemera is a manufacturer we've worked with for years at SDA, but I think I haven't done an excellent job telling their story. So to kick off 2021 I'm going to be doing a series of posts and events with the Hemera team.
Hemera is not simply building the 20 or so fixture types you might have seen in the gallery. They are also ready to be your partner for customs and modifications.
Nowhere is that more apparent than the Michigan Plaza project in Chicago. The project team engaged Hemera from early on in the process and Hemera was a total partner in the design, fabrication, and installation of this beautiful lighting sculpture.

Smartengine and Getting Beyond PoE
Smartengine is a digital platform for controlling LED lighting fixtures. It most closely resembles a PoE system, but with some critical differences. First, smartengine does not rely on third-party PoE switches to deliver power to the lighting gear. The smartengine itself sits at the core of the system, delivering a constant voltage power supply, removing the need for drivers at the fixture. Second, rather than using another vendor’s sensors, smartsensors are the eyes and ears of the system, and provide granular data for property management, enabling a true “Smart Building” experience.
Then, of course, the smartengine software is what ties all of this together with other intelligent building systems to create a total “smart building” system.
We’re in a time of transition when it comes to building control systems. I strongly encourage everyone that touches lighting to take this remote-work time to learn as much as you can about the evolution of lighting controls. I don’t think we’re going to be returning to the old “business as usual.”
Use the button below to register for our introduction to smartengine, and we can discuss the power of the system and how you can implement it on your next project.
When you sign up, you’ll receive your choice of a $15 Grubhub gift card or a $15 donation to Feeding America.
