LED Lighting and the Modern Home

Light radically changes how we experience space. Yet in too many homes the “can lights” are the only architectural feature and they are an afterthought. Generic fixtures placed in regular patterns rather than thoughtfully placed throughout the home with loving intention.

At the same time decorative LED often leaves people feeling cold rather than embraced. In this one hour class, we’re going to change the way you think about LED lighting, and help you improve the experiences of your clients.

Creating beautiful light your clients will love.

If you design luxury homes in the NY Area, then you know that lighting in the age of LED can be one of the biggest challenges.

How to Light the Modern Home

  • We establish shared objectives, outline solutions, and set performance metrics that frame the comprehensive experience ahead.

  • The most common piece of lighting advice out there is to “layer” light. But what does that mean? We’ll go over the basic layers of light at a high level.

  • Using installed demonstrations, we’ll walk you through how these layers can come together to accentuate the interiors you design to create stunning spaces.

  • A home that looks like an airport mall doesn’t work, but creating a beautiful kitchen where it’s too dark to cut vegetables doesn’t work either. We’ll give you some real world examples of how to create beautiful and functional spaces.

  • JP Bedell has worked with light for more than 25 years in a career that has spanned theater and live events, luxury residential projects, global retail and a host of commercial projects. Today he works with NYC’s design community to help them create incredible lighting for their projects.

He has spoken at LEDucation multiple times, as well as Lightfair and the IES conference and shares his insights @DeliveredLumens.
