Classrooms

Fixture Basics

sdi5-led-lens.png

NYCSCA classroom lighting specifications call for a suspended linear direct/indirect pendant. This pendant is required to have a 70% up and 30% down distribution. The layout of a typical classroom requires continuous runs, with end and joiner plates that prevent torquing or twisting. Fixtures are dimmable via 0-10v dimming. So to facilitate vacancy sensing and daylight harvesting.

Light Level Requirements

Classroom foot-candle calculations shall exclude the levels in the area 3 feet around the perimeter of each classroom but shall include lighting overall teaching surfaces. The average maintained level at 30” AFF shall be a minimum of 35 FC with an average to minimum ratio not to exceed 2.5.

For calculation purposes, use a light loss factor of 0.9 and room reflectance of 90/60/25 (Ceiling/walls/floors).

Lighting power density for classrooms = 0.5W/sq.ft

Recommended Fixture - SDI5

sdi5-profile.png

The HEW SDI5 was designed specifically to meet SCA standards for classroom fixtures. Multiple distributions are available including a true 70%up / 30% down direct/indirect fixture mounted in continuous rows. The SDI5 also delivered 140 lumens per watt.

Typical classroom Part Number: SDI5-LENGTH-L16/835-DMA-70U/30D-ACY/D24-L11-DIM-UNV
