Sky Factory · New York & Northern New Jersey Healthcare
Give every patient a view, even in rooms without windows.
Backlit sky ceilings and virtual windows for imaging suites, infusion bays, procedure rooms and patient rooms, where a real view isn't possible or the only view is a brick wall.
Clinical rooms are built to be sterile. They don't have to feel lifeless.
Interior rooms like MRI suites, procedure rooms and many patient rooms have no access to daylight. In New York and Northern New Jersey, even rooms with windows often look out on streets, brick and the sides of other buildings.
For a patient who is scared, worried or agitated, the ceiling is often the whole view. Sky Factory makes that view a calm one.
Not a faux skylight
An image you can get lost in, not a printed lens.
Each Sky Factory image is shot at 100 different focal lengths, then layered into one composition where every depth is in focus. That's how your eyes see nature: near branches and distant clouds both sharp. It's why people stop and look up when we show even a 2x2 sample.
Peer-reviewed patient outcomes
Measured on a med-surg unit, not in a showroom.
A single-blind study of 181 patients, published in the Health Environments Research & Design Journal (October 2015), compared identical rooms with and without a Luminous SkyCeiling above the bed.

A companion fMRI study with Texas Tech University found photographic sky compositions produced stronger positive neural responses than positive images in general. Read the outcomes study · Read the fMRI summary

An honest note on light levels
Sky Factory panels are tuned for comfortable direct view. They are not a source of ambient or examination light. I design them into a complete lighting plan so the room performs clinically and feels calm.
"My mother has been an ER nurse in Queens for more than 40 years. She taught me that care is also about making a scared patient feel calm and welcome."
JP Bedell has worked in lighting for more than 27 years and served as an industry advisor to the Light and Health Research Center at Mount Sinai. He runs Delivered Lumens and covers Sky Factory across New York and Northern New Jersey.

Sky Factory has to be seen to be understood. Book a 20-minute demo at your office or site, and we'll talk through the rooms you have in mind.
